What do grooms do the day of the wedding?

from Cassandra

In the wedding industry, it seems that our first focus is the bride. What is the bride wearing? Where is she getting ready? What colors has she picked out? The groom tends to take a backseat to all the planning.

So what do grooms do the day of the wedding?

I wanted to shine a little light on what the guys can look forward to before they say “I Do.”

Let’s start with where you are getting ready: …

Woolgathering and Rain Watching

from Chris

With another fall semester about to start for me, I took a little “personal retreat” time at the Log Home yesterday. Of all Stevenson Ridge’s cabins, the Log Home has perhaps the most epic front porch for passing the time. It’s a great spot for woolgathering with a cold beer or a glass of wine. In the mornings, it’s the perfect setting for that first cup or two of coffee.

We’ve had sweltering days this week, which finally …

Travel Greener

from Madeliza

With spring break around the corner, many of us will begin to plan trips and family getaways for the upcoming months. Whether we travel 30 miles from home or 3,000 miles, there are plenty of greener ways to travel!

“From the flight you book to the toiletries you pack, every travel decision you make impacts the environment,” says Sarah Engler in an article in the April/May issue of Airbnb’s magazine.

According to “30 Greener Ways to Go,” here …

It’s a Winter Wonderland!

From Madeliza

I have been working here at Stevenson for almost a year, and I have to say that when the property is covered in snow it is absolutely stunning! As soon as most of the snow started to settle, I had to walk out on the property and take a photo because it looks like a scene out of a fairy tale.

We have guests who booked the cabins just to enjoy the full “winter cabin feel.” All of …

Dinner for two, please!

From Madeliza

A few days ago, we had the opportunity to prepare a delicious dinner for two in one of our cabins. The chefs prepared a custom menu with our guests which consisted of the following.

  • Cheese platter with assorted cheeses, grapes, cured meats, grain mustard, jam, and assorted crackers
  • Mixed field greens with feta, heirloom cherry tomatoes, red onions and finished with a lemon poppy seed vinaigrette.
  • Seared Sirloin topped with a roasted garlic bordelaise demi glaze, herbed finderling

An Unplugged Birthday

from Madeliza

One of my favorite things to do as an inn coordinator is to help my guests plan surprises for their significant others. Whether it’s arranging to have breakfast delivered to their cabin in the morning or setting up the a romantic atmosphere with candles and rose petals throughout the cabin, I help plan all sorts of surprises.

Our romance package is particularly popular around this time of the year. It includes a delicious display of locally made artisan …

Romance at the Ridge

from Madeliza

Often, guests want to celebrate a special occasion with their significant other away from their normal day-to-day routine. They want somewhere quiet where they can forget their daily life and enjoy each other’s company.

Stevenson Ridge has a total of ten cabin and cottages for our guests to rent out and have a memorable experience. Imagine returning from dinner to a cabin lit by candlelight or wood-burning fire, a delicious display of locally made artisan chocolates, and silk …

“One of the best places I have stayed!”

from Madeliza

A recent family from Independence, MO, whom we had the honor to host in the Bedford Cabin for a few days left the following comment in the cabin’s guest book:

“This place was above and beyond our expectations, waking up to the smell of wood is better than waking up to the smell of a full breakfast entree. Decor is amazing, location is amazing… I can sit here all day and write so many things about this place
