Centerpieces

from Chris

Jennifer put together some lovely centerpieces for my daughter’s wedding a couple weeks ago: floating candles in glass vases wrapped in bands of silver sparkles, accented by a few small votives in silver holders. She placed everything on a mirror and then sprinkled sparkly silver stones around them. Particularly in the low light of evening, the centerpieces looked elegant and offered the perfect touch of ambience.

Here are some pictures from when we tested them out on the …

To Sign or Not to Sign

from Cassandra

How many wedding signs are too many signs?

Wedding signage is not always necessary, but it can be a nice touch! In this regard, Pinterest is our best friend and ultimate foe. I am one who fully understands the addictive qualities of Pinterest, so I am here to help.

Wedding signage has become a great love of mine. I’m able to create welcome signs, Stevenson Ridge’s signature buffet sign, and signature drinks signs for the bar for each …

Why It’s Okay to NOT Wear White on Your Wedding Day

from Kellyn

I was told, growing up, that a woman should wear white (or some form of it) on her wedding day. If you ask around to your girlfriends, you’ll likely find the same story. As an iconoclastic wedding coordinator, I always want to know more. Why is this the way it is? Where did this tradition come from? So, I’m forced to ask: wearing a white wedding dress has been the status quo for as long as most of …

Rosemary

from Madeliza

Most of the girls in the office know my love for essential oils and all things natural. In one of our October weddings, we had a bride incorporate rosemary into her table-setting. As we were setting up, I could not help but be excited about not only how gorgeous it looked but all the unique things rosemary can be used for.

Rosemary is a fragrant evergreen herb native to the Mediterranean. It is used as a culinary condiment, …

Romeo y Julieta Cigar Bar!

from Madeliza

A few weekends ago, we had wedding with an outdoor cigar bar. It’s not unusual for couples to provide cigars on their wedding for their guests to enjoy. However, this particular wedding had a beautiful and unique set up outside on the patio that displayed personalized Romeo y Julieta Reserve Cigars and even a maduro leaf to decorate.

Hand rolled in the Dominican Republic, the Romeo y Julieta Reserve maduro is a more robust alternative to the classic …

Burying the Bourbon

from Chris

I come from northwest Pennsylvania, not too far from Punxsutawney, home of the world’s most famous weather-forecasting groundhog, so unusual weather customs are not so strange to me. The South has its own weather-related traditions, of course, including one intended to keep the skies clear and brides and grooms dry on their wedding day: burying the bourbon.

According to legend, if the bride and groom bury a bottle of bourbon upside down at the site of their wedding, …

Talk about a great ending to your guestbook!

from Cassandra

My first couple of October had their longtime friend and wedding photographer snap a picture of their entire “wedding party.” After exiting their ceremony but before heading into the Lodge to enjoy cocktail hour, all the wedding guests gathered around the couple for this group photo.

I can’t help but think this would be the perfect ending to a wedding album—and also a perfect photo opportunity for a coordinator to keep a memory of her first October wedding …

Eating with Your Eyes

from Cassandra

As a coordinator here at Stevenson Ridge, I have to admit that one of my favorite parts of my job is working with a couple on designing their menu. Having a background in design AND being a local foode, I have some perfect qualification for the job!

Every wedding I call my own, so a few weeks ago, “my” October wedding bride and groom came for their menu tasting. Tess and Jeremy incorporated so many personal touches in …
