During the Summer of 2017, I was given the opportunity to be an intern for Stevenson Ridge. Here I learned about the various aspects and procedures that go into event planning and coordination. Here I was able to be a part of and assist in an array of events such as weddings, corporate events, birthday parties, wedding rehearsals, wine tasting and menu tastings.
Stevenson Ridge was exactly what I was looking for my internship experience. I was able to learn about the event industry and how many details go into bringing together one event. I learned about vendor relationships and how crucial it is to have communication between guests, brides and grooms, and vendors for this business.
I was taught how to properly set up tables, what sizes work the best for certain events and what accessories are popular for weddings. While that may not be a major part of what I did here, it was all a part of the learning experience, and I feel better as a future wedding coordinator knowing what I do now.
As a student, I feel that I was able to get my foot in the door with event coordination and understand how this job works better and what work is put into it. I cannot thank the staff here enough for their kindness and support during this time. I was able to shadow three different coordinators, and each one taught me something different that I will keep with me in my future endeavors.
