Last month, month Cassandra and I had the opportunity to tour the A. Smith Bowman Distillery, conveniently located about 11 miles from Stevenson Ridge. I will have to say that this is one must-see hidden gem in the Fredericksburg area.
The Bowman Distillery produces an assortment of artisanal spirits distilled from only the finest natural ingredients and using the latest technology. Its brands have won more than 100 awards within the past 5 years, including “Worlds Best Bourbon” in 2016 and again in 2017.
The distillery offers complimentary tours Monday through Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. departing every hour. The tour begins with some history about the distillery itself, the history of the Bowman family, and how everything came about. The tour continues with a look at the facility, storage rooms (with hundreds of bourbon barrels!) and concludes with a tasting at the end. (Guess what was our favorite part!)
Make sure to check out the gift shop before leaving for some neat keepsakes and a bottle of two of bourbon to take home!
