Making a Family Tree of Memories

from Cassandra

A wedding day is a time where you are surrounded by dear friends and family—a gathering to celebrate the joining of two families and a joyous occasion honoring the union of marriage between two people. Often, as part of the celebration, we like to commemorate family members who are no longer with us by including a memory table decorated in cherished photos of our loved ones.

An April bride of mine had the most wonderful idea to celebrate the union of marriage from generations before her. Placed in each unique frame were wedding photos including her parents’ wedding, his parents’ wedding, her grandparents’ weddings, his grandparents’ weddings, and so forth. A beautiful antique photograph of her great-grandmother’s bridal portrait was displayed as well.

The idea to include this wall of wedding-day memories created a sense of “home” on the day of their wedding. In seeking out each photo, the couple discovered that a past family member actually was married on the same date as their own wedding, April 20th, many years earlier.

I always say “It’s the little things,” as the little things can sometimes really make your wedding day just that much more special.
