Make-Your-Own “Boo”!

boo-Halloween-door-signFrom Elizabeth

Everyone is pulling out their Halloween decorations, and we’re all seeing more spider webs, coffins, zombies, black lights and much more. It’s all in fun for Halloween!

Decorating your house for Halloween can be easy and cheap. You can make centerpieces with candy corn and black candles; ping pong ball as eyes balls; milk jugs with scary faces and glow sticks; and upside-down tomato cages with a white sheet for a spooky ghost. As you can imagine, there are many more fun ideas on Pinterest.

Being the crafty girl that I am, I love making my own seasonal wreaths, so a couple years ago, I made a BOO sign to hang on my front door. Here’s how to make your own:

Supplies needed:

  • Thin, lightweight wooden letters
  • Black spray paint
  • Black glitter (I went with a dark purple!)
  • Orange or Halloween ribbon (wired ribbon works better)
  • Stapler
  • Clear protective spray (optional)

How to:

After purchasing the letters (size is your preference) at the local craft store, lay them out on a cardboard or newspaper. Spray paint the letters, and sprinkle the glitter as you go—before the paint dries so it can act like a glue. Continue until all of the letters are completely covered. (Helpful tip: you can dump the excess glitter back into your container.) Now let your letters dry.

Wrap two letters at a time with the ribbon, and staple the ends of the ribbon. Make sure you’re stapling on the back of the letters! So, the B and O are connected first then O and O will be next. Use the extra ribbon to tie some on the top of the B to use as a hanger on your door. Ta da! Now you have a lovely and spooky door hanger for Halloween.
