Luminary 2016

from Chris

In case you missed last weekend’s annual luminary ceremony at Fredericksburg National Military Park, here are a couple quick pictures. It took 500 Boy Scouts two hours to set up all the flags and all the bags with the candles in them, plus another hour to light them, plus another hour to pick them all up (and that’s not even counting all the time spent getting the bags of sand assembled, used to weight down the candle bags).

At the event itself, the National Park Service employed a small army of volunteers to provide information at five different stops at various places in the cemetery. More than 15,000 people are buried in the cemetery, but the vast majority of soldiers there are unidentified.Luminary 2016-02
