From Bettina

These days, it seems that we are constantly hearing about eating healthy, buying local and going green. But for many, it’s hard to alter busy lifestyles and work schedules to adapt to trends. Farmers markets are easy, one-stop shops where we can do all of the above without hampering your busy day. These amazing outdoor markets provide a great opportunity to shop, sample, and help your area farmers and community, all while saving you money. If you’ve never been to one, here are my tips to shopping at the Farmers Market:

  • Bring your own bags. Preferably canvas or reusable bags
  • Shop early for the best selection
  • Shop late for the best deals
  • Shop without a list. The selections at the market tends to change weekly, so eat with the season
  • Walk the entire market before buying. Prices and selection will vary from vendor to vendor
  • Talk to vendors and growers. They can give you some insight on what’s coming, or even ideas of how to use produce you’re not familiar with
  • Have fun! Don’t feel pressured that you have to buying anything

So, take a brief moment out of your schedule and visit one of our local markets—you won’t be disappointed!
