October Means “Oktoberfest” 2015!

Cap Ale Octoberfestfrom Elizabeth

October is here, but Oktoberfest has been in full swing for a while now.

Officially, Oktoberfest is the world’s largest Volksfest (beer festival) held annually in Munich, Germany. It lasts for 16 days, from mid-September to the beginning of October. However, local businesses in Fredericksburg like to put their own Oktoberfest spin on these festivities.

Blue & Gray Brewery hosted their annual festival on September 18-19, with their authentic Oktoberfest beer, stein-holding contest, oompah music and ginger bread walk.

SpencerDevon AleSpencer Devon Brewery has its Ellerslie Hop Harvest beer available. To also commemorate the season, they participated at the Mad Fox Brewery Oktoberfest on Sept. 19 with the Ellerslie. They tell us they still have some Ellerslie left, but it will probably only last another week or two–so hurry on down to get some while you can!

The Bavarian Chef is celebrating Oktoberfest with a special four-course beer-and-wine dinner available until October 4. This pre-selected menu is $35 per person, although the menu is available without the beer and wine for a lesser cost. Make your reservations now at 540-656-2101.

Capital Ale House has reopened, and they’ll be hosting their annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 24! The festival, originally scheduled for this weekend, was bumped back because of the approaching hurricane. There will be a $2 cover charge, and surrounding streets in downtown will be closed off for live musical performances, German dance groups, and a family-friendly kid space with inflatables, face paint and much more. Capital Ale House has more than 100 craft and imported brews available for guests, plus a special German menu designed for the weekend’s event. Doors open at 11 a.m. The celebration will continue in the street until 10 p.m., and the restaurant will stay open until 1:30 a.m. For an additional charge, Capital Ale House offers VIP seating, which includes some special Oktoberfest goodies. Visit their website for more information at www.capitalalehouse.com.

Prost!
