Departure of the Ducks

from Chef Anthony

Back in the spring of 2017, Stevenson Ridge took in a little family of ducklings to live on our pond. In the beginning, they wouldn’t leave their “house” across the pond. Over the following months, the staff watched them grow from little ducklings into full-grown ducks. They were then finding their way all over the property, even right up to our kitchen door to see what we were cooking up!

Everyone began to become so attached to them. They quickly went from “pets” to part of the SR team! Every day, members of the staff would ask, “Did anyone feed the ducks?” all hoping the answer was “not yet” so we’d have the chance to enjoy the humorous moment when all the ducks waddled towards us for feeding time.

They loved it here. Steven Ridge was their little duck paradise.

Unfortunately, Stevenson Ridge consists of a large, beautiful, wooded property, so our duck family sometimes had some unwanted neighbors: predators.

I came into work one early morning for a breakfast for one of our cabins and noticed one of the ducks missing. To say the least, it was a very sad day in the office. A coupe weeks later, another one of the ducks was gone, leaving nothing behind but a few scattered feathers.

The owners and managers decided it would be best for our little feathered family move to another location where they could get the love and protection they needed. So, our very awesome food rep Tory H stepped up to the plate and volunteered to take them in.

On the day of the ducks’ departure, all the staff got together and had a nice send off for them. The ducks now are living the life out on a beautiful private pond. Tory still sends us pictures and videos so we can always see how our little buddies are doing!
