Jennifer and I recently took a trip down Route 208 toward Lake Anna, into the heart of Spotsylvania County, to visit our friends at the Lake Anna Winery. They were just preparing for their own employee holiday party later that evening, so the entire tasting room was fully decked out for the holiday. Frank Sinatra crooned Christmas carols in the background, and a fire crackled warmly in the fireplace.
It was the end of the day, so we had the tasting room essentially to ourselves, which gave us plenty of opportunity for friendly conversation with our friend Jeff Heidig, one of the owners. We had the chance to taste eight wines over the course of our visit, and we settled on a bottle of their Lakeside Red to take home. (They call it their “hot tub” wine, although we don’t have a hot tub!)
